I International Flamenco Guitar Festival - Xatafi 2022
Getafe - Madrid (07/02/2022)

  • Getafe is organizing the 'Xatafi Flamenco', offering a direct pass to the Cante de Las Minas Festival

It is a competition consisting of three categories: Palos without compás; Palos with compás and the third one aims to rescue little-used flamenco palos.

The Getafe City Council takes a step forward in the promotion of flamenco by organizing 'Xatafi Flamenco', the 1st International Festival of Flamenco Guitar Accompaniment to Singing in Getafe. It is a competition with three categories: Palos without compás, Palos with compás, and a third category that aims to rescue lesser-used flamenco palos, challenging contestants to prepare pieces such as Caña or Polo, Zambra, and Mariana.

As explained by the Councilor of Culture, Luis Domínguez, "our summer program will incorporate the ambitious initiative of valuing the flamenco guitar, an idea that comes from two elements, on the one hand, recognizing the local initiative in cultural promotion and international reference, with the participation of the Cante de las Minas Festival, and on the other hand, betting on the recovery of the Guitar Festival for accompanying the cante."

The finals of the competition will take place on Thursday, June 30th, Saturday, July 2nd, and Sunday, July 3rd in the courtyard of the Hospitalillo de San José with performances by the winners of the Festival del Cante de las Minas, announcing the winners at the end of the day on Sunday. The competition has a prize of 2,500 euros for each category and a special prize of 1,000 euros, which grants direct access to the semifinals of the Festival Internacional del Cante de Las Minas held in La Unión, Murcia.

Getafe is offering its residents, and flamenco fans in general, this initiative with the aim of becoming a benchmark, a tribute to an important part of the essence of this city, and also a recognition of the festivals that take place. In this case, the aim is to contribute to making an essential element such as the guitar accompaniment to singing, the protagonist of the Festival.
